How do you organise takeaway and delivery orders in your POS system?
Published · By Foodyx
Short answer
Takeaway and delivery orders come together when all your ordering channels end up in the same POS or order environment. Orders at the counter and by phone are entered directly in the POS; connected digital channels send their orders to the POS automatically. At Foodyx, your own webshop, Thuisbezorgd and Uber Eats arrive in Foodyx POS through POSHUB, and from there everything goes to the kitchen.
What kinds of takeaway and delivery orders are there?
Takeaway and delivery orders usually come in through a few fixed routes:
- at the counter, where the guest orders and waits or comes back later;
- by phone, taken by your team;
- through your own ordering website;
- through delivery platforms such as Thuisbezorgd and Uber Eats;
- in some restaurants through a self-service kiosk, for takeaway.
Why do separate order streams appear?
Every channel comes with its own way of working. A platform has its own environment where orders arrive, a phone order is written down or entered, and your own website may have a system of its own.
If those streams don't come together, the kitchen receives orders from different sources and the team keeps an eye on several lists and screens during the rush.
How do you bring takeaway and delivery together in one POS?
Orders your team takes itself go straight into the POS; digital channels are connected so their orders follow automatically. At Foodyx, orders at the counter, by phone and in the restaurant are entered directly in Foodyx POS; your own webshop, Thuisbezorgd and Uber Eats come in through POSHUB. Takeaway and delivery are separate order types in Foodyx POS.

How do you avoid re-keying orders?
Re-keying happens where an order arrives in one system and has to continue in another. Two things help: entering the orders your team takes straight into the POS, and connecting digital channels so their orders reach the POS by themselves.
A phone order is still entry work for your team, but only once, in the POS itself. At Foodyx, webshop and platform orders arrive through POSHUB, so they do not have to be entered again.
How do takeaway and delivery orders reach the kitchen?
From the POS, every order goes to the kitchen printer or kitchen display. It helps the kitchen to see what kind of order it is, for example whether the guest is taking it away.
At Foodyx, Foodyx POS sends every takeaway and delivery order to the right kitchen printer, through POSHUB to Foodyx KDS, or to both, according to your own set-up. On Foodyx KDS the kitchen sees, among other things, whether the guest is taking away or eating in. Read more about how a KDS or kitchen display works.
Your own webshop alongside delivery platforms
Your own webshop and delivery platforms can exist side by side: platforms help you reach new guests, your own webshop is there for guests who order directly from you. In one central order flow, the orders from both sit together.
For Foodyx Webshop, Foodyx charges no commission per order; any costs from your payment provider, and a platform's costs and conditions, are separate. Read on about your own ordering website with your POS system, connecting Thuisbezorgd and connecting Uber Eats.
How does this work at Foodyx?
In Foodyx POS takeaway and delivery are separate order types, alongside eating in and table service. Takeaway and delivery orders carry customer details, and delivery orders from Foodyx Webshop arrive with the address details.
Thuisbezorgd and Uber Eats are connected through POSHUB and receive the order status back automatically. Sales and orders show up in POS Analytics. See the solution for delivery and takeaway restaurants and all orders together in one POS system.
What should you look out for in a POS system for takeaway and delivery?
These questions help when choosing and setting up your POS. Where they concern Foodyx, they say how it works there.
Which ordering channels are supported?
List the channels through which you receive takeaway and delivery orders and check whether the POS receives all of them. At Foodyx these are counter and phone in Foodyx POS, and Foodyx Webshop, Thuisbezorgd and Uber Eats through POSHUB.
How do orders reach the kitchen?
Check how orders are divided between printers and screens. Foodyx POS sends them to the right kitchen printer, through POSHUB to Foodyx KDS, or to both, according to your own set-up.
Which customer details belong with the order?
For delivery you need an address, for takeaway often a name or phone number. In Foodyx POS, customer details belong with takeaway and delivery orders; delivery orders from Foodyx Webshop arrive with the address details.
How is payment handled?
Check how online payments, payments at the counter and payments for platform orders end up in the POS. Online payment in Foodyx Webshop runs through Mollie; card terminals at the POS are connected through CM.com.
Does the order status go back to the platforms?
A status that goes back automatically does not need updating separately by your team. At Foodyx, being prepared, out for delivery and completed go back to Thuisbezorgd and Uber Eats automatically.
Do takeaway and delivery work differently?
Takeaway and delivery each need their own way of working, for example at the pick-up point. In Foodyx POS they are separate order types, alongside eating in and table service.
What reporting do you need?
Check whether you can see sales and orders per channel. Foodyx POS Analytics shows sales, orders and performance across all your channels in one overview.
Can you add channels later?
Choose a system that lets you start with what you need now. At Foodyx you can add a kiosk or QR Ordering later, for example.

Not if the platform is connected to your POS. At Foodyx, Thuisbezorgd and Uber Eats orders arrive in Foodyx POS automatically through POSHUB.
