How do you bring orders from multiple channels into one POS?

Short answer

Orders from different channels come together when each channel is connected to the same POS system or order platform. The POS then processes them as one order flow and sends them on to the kitchen. At Foodyx, the digital and connected channels come in through POSHUB; orders at the counter, in the restaurant and by phone are entered directly in Foodyx POS.

What do we mean by multiple ordering channels?

An ordering channel is any route by which an order reaches your business. For many restaurants there is more than one:

  • at the counter or in the restaurant, taken by your team;
  • by phone;
  • at the table, taken by staff on a handheld;
  • through your own webshop, for collection or delivery;
  • through a self-service kiosk in your restaurant;
  • through a QR code at the table, on the guest's phone;
  • through delivery platforms such as Thuisbezorgd and Uber Eats.

Why do separate order streams appear?

Channels are usually added one at a time. A restaurant starts with a POS, later connects a delivery platform and then adds a webshop or self-service kiosk. If each channel brings its own screen, system or way of working, order streams appear side by side.

Your team then watches orders in different places, copies some into the POS and works in the kitchen with more than one list. The overview of what needs to be prepared gets scattered.

How do you centralise orders?

Centralising means that all channels end up in the same place: one POS system or order platform where every order arrives, wherever the guest ordered. For that you need:

  • A POS system that receives orders from several sources
  • An integration for each external channel, such as a delivery platform
  • Your own ordering channels working with the same POS
  • One route from the POS to the kitchen

Which ordering channels can you combine?

In principle, any channel your POS system supports. At Foodyx, these are:

Counter, restaurant and phone

Orders your team takes are entered directly in the POS: Foodyx POS.

Table service

With Foodyx Mobile POS your staff take orders where the guest is sitting.

Your own webshop

With Foodyx Webshop guests order on your own ordering site, for collection and delivery.

Self-service kiosk

With Foodyx Kiosk guests order and pay themselves in your restaurant.

QR ordering

With QR Ordering guests order at the table from their own phone, without an app.

Delivery platforms

Thuisbezorgd and Uber Eats are connected to Foodyx through POSHUB.

What happens in the kitchen?

When all orders arrive in one POS, the kitchen can work from one source too. The POS sends every order on to the kitchen printer or kitchen display (KDS) where it belongs, whichever channel it came in through.

At Foodyx, platform orders sit alongside your other orders in the same kitchen flow. From Foodyx POS they go to the right kitchen printer, or through POSHUB to Foodyx KDS, depending on your set-up. Read also how a KDS or kitchen display works.

What is the role of an integration layer?

An integration layer is software between the ordering channels and the POS. It receives orders from different sources and passes them to the POS in one form; where an integration supports it, information also flows back, such as the order status. At Foodyx, POSHUB is that layer, in both directions: between Foodyx POS and the connected channels, and between Foodyx POS and Mobile POS, QR Ordering, Tablet Menu and Foodyx KDS. What your team enters in the POS itself does not go into the POS through POSHUB; if it goes to Foodyx KDS, Foodyx POS sends it through POSHUB to the kitchen display.

How does this work at Foodyx?

Foodyx POS is the POS where everything comes together. What your team takes at the counter, in the restaurant or by phone is entered there directly. The digital and connected channels come in through POSHUB. From Foodyx POS, orders go to printers, or through POSHUB to KDS, and you see sales and orders in POS Analytics.

How Foodyx sets this up for your business is explained under all orders together in one POS system.

Frequently asked questions

Can webshop and platform orders arrive in the same POS?

Yes, if the webshop and the platforms are connected to the same POS system. At Foodyx, Foodyx Webshop, Thuisbezorgd and Uber Eats arrive in Foodyx POS through POSHUB.

Do kiosk and QR orders join the same order flow too?

At Foodyx, yes. Kiosk and QR Ordering are part of the same platform; their orders arrive in Foodyx POS through POSHUB, just like webshop orders.

Do counter orders have to go through an integration platform?

Not to get into the POS. An order your team takes at the counter, in the restaurant or by phone is entered directly in the POS; at Foodyx that is Foodyx POS. If the order goes to Foodyx KDS, Foodyx POS sends it through POSHUB to the kitchen display.

Can I use Thuisbezorgd and Uber Eats at the same time?

Yes. Each platform has its own integration, but the orders arrive in the same POS. At Foodyx, both are connected through POSHUB.

Do all orders go to the same kitchen?

They go to the kitchen through the same POS, and the POS sends each order to the printer or screen where it belongs. At Foodyx that is the right kitchen printer or Foodyx KDS, depending on your set-up.

Can I add more ordering channels later?

Yes. Foodyx is modular: you start with the parts you need and add other Foodyx products or supported integrations later.
