How do you connect Uber Eats to your POS system?

Short answer

You connect Uber Eats to a POS system with an integration your POS supplier supports. Uber Eats then sends orders to the POS digitally, so nobody has to enter them again. At Foodyx, the integration runs through POSHUB and Uber Eats orders arrive in Foodyx POS.

What is an Uber Eats POS integration?

An Uber Eats POS integration connects the delivery platform to your POS software. When a guest orders through Uber Eats, that order also arrives in your POS system, where your team processes it further.

Depending on the integration, information also flows the other way, such as the status of an order or the menu. Exactly what is exchanged differs per POS supplier.

How does the order flow work?

A guest orders through Uber Eats. The integration passes the order to the POS system, and from there it goes to the kitchen. At Foodyx, POSHUB is the integration and Foodyx POS is the POS system.

How does menu synchronisation work?

A delivery platform shows guests your menu: products, prices and options. Without synchronisation you maintain that menu separately in the platform's environment, next to the products in your POS, and make every change twice.

With menu synchronisation you manage the menu in one place and the platform takes over the linked menu information. Whether that is possible depends on the integration your POS supplier has with the platform.

With the Foodyx Uber Eats integration, you manage the menu in Foodyx/POSHUB and the linked menu information is synchronised with Uber Eats. This means you don't have to keep track of changes in several places separately.

What happens without a POS integration?

Without an integration, you work with two environments side by side: Uber Eats's and your POS's. You notice it most at busy moments:

  • your team reads orders off one screen and enters them into the POS again;
  • options and notes have to be copied exactly right;
  • you keep menu changes and prices up to date in two places;
  • Uber Eats orders sit apart from the rest of your order overview.

What are the benefits of an integration?

What an integration delivers depends on what it supports. Common benefits are:

  • No double entry of orders
  • Products, options and notes in the POS digitally
  • Orders sent on from the POS to the kitchen
  • The order status back to the platform, where the integration supports it
  • Menu management in one place, where the integration supports menu synchronisation

Can Uber Eats work alongside Thuisbezorgd and your own webshop?

Yes. A POS system can have several integrations at once, one per platform. What brings the channels together is that their orders end up in the same POS and the same kitchen flow.

At Foodyx, Uber Eats, Thuisbezorgd and Foodyx Webshop work side by side. How the Thuisbezorgd integration works is explained in Connecting Thuisbezorgd to your POS system. See also Thuisbezorgd and Uber Eats in one POS and all orders together in one POS system.

How does this work at Foodyx?

An Uber Eats order arrives through POSHUB in Foodyx POS, alongside your other orders, and does not need to be entered again. From Foodyx POS, the order goes to the right kitchen printer, or through POSHUB to Foodyx KDS, depending on your set-up.

The order status (being prepared, out for delivery, completed) goes back to Uber Eats automatically, and the linked menu information is synchronised. The integration is set up by Foodyx. More about the Uber Eats integration.

What should you look out for when connecting?

Ask your POS supplier these questions before you connect. Where they concern Foodyx, they say how it works there.

Which order details come in?

Products, quantities and notes need to arrive in the POS in full, so the kitchen doesn't have to ask. At Foodyx they travel digitally with the order.

How are options handled?

Sides, sizes and other options on Uber Eats need to match the options in your POS. Go through this per product group during set-up.

Where do you manage the menu?

Ask whether the integration synchronises the menu or whether you keep it up to date in two environments. At Foodyx, you manage the menu in Foodyx/POSHUB and the linked menu information is synchronised with Uber Eats.

Which route does the order take to the kitchen?

Check whether platform orders take the same route to kitchen printers or kitchen display as your other orders. At Foodyx, Foodyx POS sends them to the right kitchen printer, or through POSHUB to Foodyx KDS, depending on your set-up.

Does the order status go back?

If the status goes to the platform automatically, your team doesn't have to update it separately. At Foodyx, being prepared, out for delivery and completed go back to Uber Eats automatically.

How do payments show up?

Ask how the payment method and payment status of an Uber Eats order are recorded in your POS and how you see them in your accounts.

What if the connection drops?

Ask how orders come in when the integration or the internet is briefly down, and agree with your team what you do then.

Does it work alongside your other channels?

Check whether Thuisbezorgd, your own webshop and the orders in your restaurant come together in the same POS. At Foodyx, Uber Eats, Thuisbezorgd and Foodyx Webshop arrive in the same Foodyx environment.
